Preparation:

The Medusa Mythology Examination Committee often receives inquiries from teachers and students who want to know how best to prepare for the upcoming Medusa Exam. This page was designed to address those concerns - we list below several suggestions and methods for preparation.

  • Download the sample questions for the 2008 exam by clicking one of the following links: PDF format or Word format.
  • View and print out copies of past exams! Sample questions for the upcoming test will be posted here soon!
  • Several excellent books about mythology (including some of our source books) have splendid companion websites. For instance, the companion website to Classical Mythology by Professors Morford and Lenardon includes many maps, activities, chapter summaries, glossaries, commentaries, bibliographies, study questions, and quizzes! In addition, Thomas Bulfinch's Age of Fable (a Medusa Exam sourcework) has an excellent and exhaustive companion website. You can search the entire tale, and the site is wonderfully annotated, including in-depth discussions of the characters, places, and creatures in the work; also has links to maps, photographs, and English literature references. Further, Bradford Duncan has developed study questions to go along with Edith Hamilton's classic book (and Medusa Exam sourcework) Mythology.
  • Everyone loves Certamen, right? That's great, because now you can play practice Certamen matches with questions from past Medusa Exams! The creators of the Certamen Questions Database have reformatted the Medusa Exam questions to make them Certamen friendly, and have posted them online. In addition, the Database has hundreds of other Certamen questions that are quite useful for preparation purposes.
  • Another great way to prepare is to take advantage of our new online practice tests that use questions from past Medusa Exams. They're fun, and you can get results back instantly. Click here to look at the past Medusa exams.
